   1 ;"{L9883 It's only taken a year but we've finally"'"decided to expand this fanzine into 80K of wallowing in the past (as opposed to the"'"usual 40K of embarrassing sycophantic"'"drivel). We hope our distributors don't"'"mind the extra code block or the advert"'"screen files. It's nice not to worry about memory anymore so expect more graphics from the classic games."
   1 ;"{L9882 Alright you Specheads. So this idea has fallen flat"'"on its face. Not enough people were writing in to make the chart a valid concept. So instead we'll"'"print peoples top tens as they see them. Always"'"quite interesting to see other peoples tastes AND we'll give a free game of your choice to the most interesting ones. When I got it home I"'"was not suprised to find all the little"'"'dots' (marble ball things) missing,"'"rendering the game useless. Well, not"'"quite. The Pac-Man went straight"'"into Amandas Mini Cooper, dangling"'"from the rear-view mirror."
   1 ;"{L9881 It's a fact that writing a fanzine"'"turns you into a fat blob. Before I'd"'"even started this bit I'd consumed six"'"bags of Richmonds crisps. They only"'"cost 98p for 12 packets. Sometimes"'"you get thirteen bags and sometimes"'"you only get 9. This is why I come"'"back to Nottingham every weekend;"'"the crisps and the excitement they"'"bring to my stuck in division one life."
   1 ;"{L9881 There are no shortage of football games on the Spectrum,"'"some awful and some terrible. No names no packdrill (respect"'"to all Z80 programmers but I'll sit on the fence right now).":
   1 ;"{L9880 The only Editor we have is the one we cheat at"'"Elite with. To tell the truth we've had no actual"'"complaints about 'adult' language we sometimes"'"use. To be even more honest, we hardly get any"'"letters at all! Now that our circulation is going up though, we must expect and take on board the"'"comments. We both swear alot in 'real time' and it comes out in the writing. That's us and our"'"personalities. To me its normal but to others it's obviously not on."
   1 ;"{L9880 Steve 'obscure' Mitchell, Bolton, Nr Wankchester";
   1 ;"{L9880 St.John Swainson, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.":
   1 ;"was obviously more educational than that Binatone bat and ball game. Little did they know of Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy lurking in the shadows."''"Following mixed reviews in the magazines I bought Monopoly and Cluedo as soon as they were released. I soon realised"'"that some things were never meant to be computer games."'"Nearly `20 and alot of wasted anticipation down the drain, and I still preferred the real action."
   1 ;"Yes, I've gone a little space crazy. I blame Star Trek-the"'"next load of gits, for putting me in this inter-galactic frame of mind. First it was Lt. Yah with her lush haircut and cute face. I could have lashed her head with a hammer, the jammy bitch. And I'm no racist believe me but that Klingon makes"'"me feel sick. Then again, I fancy Terry Hurlock so I'm"'"obviously not normal. He would protect me in the chip shop to his last breath, and that's what boyfriends should do."
   1 ;"Write to 2 Belvoir Rd, Nottingham NG2 5DL."
   1 ;"With issue 7 comes our first anniversary"'"on the Speccy PD scene (well, we're not"'"really a fanzine at all are we?) If you"'"want to really keep up to date and stride"'"in meaningful ways then look up the"'"addresses in Support Scene and actually"'"WRITE to these people. They send you free tapes and nice letters and it's a treat for"'"your letter box."
   1 ;"Which leads on to games that leave you wondering, why did they bother? The aforementioned Waddingtons games proved that the Spectrum has its limitations. And who has played"'"Subbuteo on a monitor? What's the bloody point!!":
   1 ;"We've also been less lazy and contacted all known remaining Speccy bods for a bit of"'"'hey we exsist, we're out here' type noises.":
   1 ;"WEST BRIDGFORD";
   1 ;"This is the first time we've featured a game by Jon Ritman"'"and Bernie Drummond, but it certainly won't be the last."'"When Match Day 2 landed in the shops it regained the"'"crown from Imagines dreary Super Soccer and Artics"'"pathetic World Cup games (whoops, I dissed), taking full"'"advantage of the 128 sound chip along the way. At last the new breed of Speccies were getting decent games."
   1 ;"There was now crowd noise, more choices over tactics and"'"kicking style, a full league to play in plus the original cup"'"competition. The name editor comes in very handy as the"'"original team monikers make me cringe every time (as does"'"the 'C' in the very ugly font but never mind!)":
   1 ;"There have been a number of board game conversions onto home computer format, to debatable degrees of sucess. The first games I ever bought were Psions Chess and Scrabble."'"My parents were quite pleased I think, this computer thing >":
   1 ;"The original Match Day game came out in 1984 and became"'"an instant hit. Readers wrote in bragging of 15-0 victories"'"over the computer opponant and there was even a real cup competition run by one of the Spec mags. The game was"'"fairly easy to beat - scoring from 50 yards out and with"'"throw-ins were commonplace. Even Dave scored. The graphics were big and it was certainly the best real time footy game we had."
   1 ;"The graphics are slighlty smaller, in fact they resemble cute baby Michelin men - pudgy but nippy (unlike that fat Gazza thing). The trouble is, I can't seem to score in this game -"'"the goalies are far too good. Sod dribbling and passing, I"'"punt the ball from just outside the box but I never win."
   1 ;"Send us your favourites (they can be games, PD"'"demos or bits of hardware!) and send them to the address on the next page. Your chosen game"'"could wing it's way through your box... >":

   1 ;"Looking back on my childhood (which still continues after 3"'"cans of lager) I've seen some of my favourite boardgames"'"never making it onto any computer. Who remembers On The Buses? You had to go round your colour coded route pick-"'"ing up passengers and avoiding Blakie. Ace game! And what about Haunted House, dropping a ball bearing down the"'"chimney to set off traps to knacker your opponants bloke."'"I suppose it could have been the forerunner to Knight Lore. Eh, sort of..."
   1 ;"Let us meet on the battlefields of England but you better"'"be good. We're both up at the crack of Dawn (ooer) atten-"'"ding boot fairs and jumble sales. There was even a Computer fair at the Cricket ground. It cost `1.50 to get in only to"'"find about ten grotty ugly computer types selling PC stuff and Amiga games. I was non-plussed and asked for my cash"'"back (which was not forthcoming). I thought about kicking a table over but I had a bad leg..."
   1 ;"In issue 8 I'm hoping to bring you the ultimate guide to"'"football management games and how to actually beat them"'"without cheating (and I should know because I've got about 300 of the things). Congratulations go to the other teams"'"this season who visibly wilted as they entered the New Den. And thanks to the referee who cheated us of a penalty (and a possible Wembley place.) Up Yours."
   1 ;"I've been spending most weekends mucking about with Art"'"Studio, trying to amass some decent graphics for my first"'"ever demo. The house is currently swamped with scroller"'"routines, scrunchers (one of my favourite words that!) and"'"abysmal Soundtracker efforts. But I'm bound to nick one of"'"Mr.Agent-X's wonderous tunes like everybody else seems to. No idea when it will be finished but I'm still enthusiastic so"'"that's half the battle."
   1 ;"I'm not going to ban swearing in this fanzine, it's up to the individual writers to decide. I've sugg-"'"ested to Alchemist Research PD library that SC"'"receives an Adult tag. I'm far more concerned with sexist, racist or homophobic material in PD software which most definately is banned in here!"''"Thanks for your letter and support, it was very much appreciated (of which only the PS was"'"printed)."
   1 ;"I won't tell you about the junk shops in Hyson Green then... A visit every two weeks or so always yields a new batch of"'"fresh second hand software. Just the other week we tracked down copies of TASWORD 2 and the nifty integer compiler MCODER 2 for a pound each. In all, I think we spent about"'"`20 and then faced the 'oh no, the handles of this carrier"'"bag are going to snap at any moment' type situation. You"'"know the score my warriors of the bargin."
   1 ;"I havn't forgotten Trivial"'"Pursuits, Pictionary or any"'"other smug yuppie coffee"'"table quiz games. Another"'"boring feature maybe..."
   1 ;"I had an idea to do a feature every issue on different cities and where to buy Spectrum gear. I didn't realise just how"'"protective most of you are of your haunts! Would have"'"made a good section though, but I guess I understand. Sigh.":
   1 ;"Games that combine the"'"computer and tangible pieces"'"are not common. The cost"'"factor probably came into it"'"when these projects were"'"discussed. Apart from that"'"crap Atmosphere game (who"'"can play it without lots of"'"giggling?) my favourite is"'"Brian Cloughes Football"'"Fortunes. Having the Speccy"'"control the league table was"'"a stroke of obvious genius."'"And don't forget that"'"Space Crusade, Gremlins last"'"(and best) for us."
   1 ;"Football games since 86, in my opinion, have failed to better the Match Day series. Programs that I had very high hopes on, such as Microprose Soccer and Emlyn Hughes Int. were"'"very disapointing. I'm the first to admit I go weak at the"'"knees when offered a game of Sega Fifa Soccer because lets face it lads, I could beat the socks off any of you on it."'"But I think you'd thrash me at Match Day."
   1 ;"Duck muther's, cos' I'm now DEADLY. It's taken me a"'"month of Sundays and seven galaxies but I did it. I maybe"'"nearly a decade behind everyone else in enjoying this game"'"but I'm fresh and I'm bad. I wouldn't fancy your chances in a dog-fight, cobweb bollocks. By Christmas I'll be TOP-DOG!":
   1 ;"Did anyone go to the Format Gloucester Spectrum fair?"'"What was it like? Did I miss anything? What with"'"Nottingham being in the centre of the country, how about"'"holding one here... hmmmm. Jeff, Dave, come ere' mateys..."
   1 ;"Dear Dave, We have just finished looking at the"'"tape that you kindly sent us, the PD progs (fonts + Subbuteo Scoreboard) are brilliant, really good"'"stuff. Sinclair Classic is again excellent, well put"'"together and very slick. We only have one criti-"'"sism, the swearing detracts from the obvious"'"quality and hard work that went into putting SC"'"together. Why spend hours and hours putting"'"class work together and then leave the swear"'"words in... Editors job mate."
   1 ;"Compiled on DAN-TECH 486DX PC."'"Actually thats not true at all, it was a +2 by three perverts:"''"DAVE 'cling film' FOUNTAIN"'"AMANDA 'tin strawberries' COLE"'"JEFF 'ask the wife' COOPER"''"PFN SYSTEM
   1 ;"Chess games are fairly suited to"'"transfer to a 2-D format; the com-"'"puter can make a formidable oppo-"'"nant with the right depth of pro-"'"gramming. One of the best I've seen"'"is Colossus 4 Chess by CDS (if you"'"can excuse the poor quality of the"'"cassette tapes they consistantly"'"use). With more options you could"'"possibly need, and a nifty 3-D"'"display, this surely is the definitive"'"Speccy boffins wargame.":
   1 ;"Backgammon is also well represented; one of the earliest"'"versions by Hewson, was given away on a Sinclair User tape some years ago. I must admit, I find Draughts a hideously"'"boring game, but Hewson again gave you the chance to play Einstein at it! There is some real lush programming here,"'"turning a simple boardgame into a fun experience (at least"'"until the novelty wears off)."
   1 ;"All the regulars are here plus the return of Cloughies Clinic with yet more tips to"'"keep your Speccy world in top order. New"'"features include no-depth interviews with Z80 programmers, and Demo Demons; the"'"PD gems you shouldn't be without. Don't"'"fret for us kids, this crap still only takes us a couple of days to complete."
   1 ;"A rather dubious tie-in was released shortly after the"'"original game in the guise of International MatchDay. It's a"'"laugh isn't it? You stick country team names in and add a"'"scoreboard bit and you can release exactly the same game"'"all over again. I think I'm in the wrong business...I should be a rip-off merchant."
